What is Dorpentocht Walcheren?

 

The Dorpentocht Walcheren is a cycling tour for young and old. It has been organised for more than 25 years and takes place every year on the first Tuesday of August. The proceeds of the bike ride benefit Terre des Hommes, an organisation dedicated to children's rights. Together, on the road with the aim of stopping the exploitation of children in developing countries.

 

The bike ride has a total distance of about 55 km and winds through picturesque villages, past waving cornfields to the city centre of Middelburg. Participants pass a stamping post every five kilometres. These may be at a mini campsite, a mill, a theatre or a farm. At the stamping post, there are activities and local regional products are offered, for example.
